Temporal Sickness

Temporal Sickness (medically classified as Chrono-Cellular Dysplasia) is a debilitating condition caused by unshielded exposure to Chronosite radiation. It is the most common occupational hazard on Xylos.

The symptoms manifest in three stages. Stage 1 involves mild confusion, déjà vu, and loss of short-term memory. Stage 2 involves rapid cellular aging or regression; a patient's hand might age 50 years while their arm remains young. Stage 3 is total temporal dissociation, where the patient's consciousness becomes unstuck in time, leaving them in a catatonic state while their body fails.

The condition is treated at the Aethelgard Institute using temporal anchors and radiation scrubbing. However, there is no known cure for Stage 3. Survivors of Stage 2 often require cybernetic replacements for limbs that aged too quickly to be saved.

Interestingly, some native Echo-Fauna appear immune to the sickness, a trait that geneticists are currently trying to replicate in humans.
