Harmonic Shielding is the essential safety technology that allows human life to exist on Xylos. Developed by the engineering division of the Obsidian Council, these shields generate a counter-frequency that cancels out the harmful radiation emitted by Chronosite.
The technology works on the principle of destructive interference. Sensors detect the fluctuation of the Chronosite, and the shield emitters generate an inverse wave. This creates a "bubble" of normal causality where time flows at a standard rate. All cities, including Echo-Point, are enclosed within massive municipal Harmonic Shields.
The failure of a shield generator is a death sentence. The most famous failure occurred during The Great Dissonance, when the shielding at the Northern Reactor collapsed. Since then, redundancy protocols require three backup generators for every active shield.
Black market hackers often sell "Ghost Shields," modified portable units that allow smugglers to hide their cargo from Council scanners, though these units are notoriously unstable.
