Whisper-Vines (Vitis Auditus) are the dominant form of plant life on Xylos. They are a primary subject of study in Resonant Biology due to their unique method of energy production.
Instead of photosynthesis, Whisper-Vines utilize "Sonosynthesis." They have broad, parabolic leaves that capture the sound waves generated by The Whispering Skies. This vibrational energy is converted into sugars. As a result, the vines are always moving, trembling slightly as they feed on the noise.
The vines produce a sap that is highly conductive and is used in the manufacturing of circuitry for Harmonic Shielding. However, harvesting the sap is dangerous; the vines react to sudden loud noises (like chainsaws) by constricting violently, capable of crushing a human limb.
In Sector 4, giant mutated variations of Whisper-Vines have been observed, some thick enough to crush tanks. These variants appear to feed on the temporal distortion itself.
